With the invention of high vacuum pumps, vacuum tubes become available for study. On November 8, 1895, Wilhelm Rontgen, a Germany physicist, discovered high frequency electromagnetic radiation for the first time. Two weeks later, he took a picture of his wife hand and showed bones. The discovery of X-ray is directly benefiting from the vacuum pump, and ushered in the era of radiation, atomic energy, and atomic bombs.
