Elizabeth came to power and acquired good advice. One of her mottoes was "video et taceo" ("I see, and say nothing"). She remains a virgin and never produced an heir. Elizabeth's reign is known as the Elizabethan era, famous above all for the flourishing of English drama, led by playwrights such as William Shakespeare. 50 years after her death, a civil war broke out between parliament forces and royalties.
